Statement.

The push and pull of angular presence in my work comes from my Study and adoration of ancient Eastern art, renaissance period art, and cubism. With organic subjects like plants and figures, I seek out and invent angular relationships using line, color and shape. I also use patterning and repetition to hint at thematic elements, show direction, and disrupt perspective. I hope to challenge traditional aesthetics by applying the flattened perspectives of my influences to everyday modern subjects and their environments. My goal is to unite the lenses of representational painting and contemporary abstraction using angular relationships, emphatic positioning, and bold color quality. I predominantly work in oil, but also with alternative media such as wax, plaster, powdered pigment, and oil pastel. Figurative works are derived from a combination of self study, live models, and original photo references taken from staged models. Botanical and animal works are sourced from live study and literary reference.
